Reverse Engineering Service

Using a combination of 3D scanning and additional measuring equipment our UK based service can reverse-engineer an accurate computer CAD model of an existing part so that it is either identical to the original or adjusted to your specification.

A 3D CAD model of a Mini A+ Engine block. The engine is shown as in both 3D scanned & probed data formats and half as a reverse engineered solid CAD model.
Using our state-of-the-art 3D scanners, we can generate detailed, fully accurate shape data from almost any component. This can then go through the reverse engineering process to first turn it into a solid computer model before being used to guide a computerised re-manufacturing process such as CNC machining, Casting, Moulding or 3D printing.

3D scanning is ideal if you want to replicate a complex or unusual part that can’t easily be captured by manual measuring, and for which you don’t have access to the original plans.

We have 3D scanned, reverse engineered and helped recreate thousands of items including castings, tooling moulds, lay-up patterns, CNC machined parts, profiles for laser cutting and much more.

How it works

  • We use our advanced measuring tools to capture detailed shape data on your component. You can bring your item to our Norfolk factory, or we can travel to you. The measuring process can be completely contactless if required.
  • Almost anything can be measured and turned into a computer model. Items which we 3D scan can be almost any size as long as we can get clear sight of the required surfaces. Traditionally difficult surfaces such as carbon fibre and mirrors can now be scanned with minimal or no preparation. We are happy to advise you on what is possible.
  • We can reverse engineer the raw scan data to convert it into solid CAD models ready for your favourite CAD and CAM software. During this process we can delete any damage from the part, remove any manufacturing errors and make any other changes required.
  • The resulting CAD model can be used to drive a manufacturing process such as CNC Machining or 3D Printing. You can manage this yourself, we can suggest a third-party workshop or we can support you ourselves, using our own on-site CNC facilities.
  • If required we can also create 2D machining drawings.
