Deconstruction - Engine/gearbox removal

The following pictures show the 90 as it was being stripped.

The prop shafts were next to be removed. It's a lot easier from the top! This is the rear one.

And here's the front.

Here's Michael (my 12 year old son) removing the rear prop shaft from the differential. Use of the correct tool on the ratchet makes it much easier. Note the greasy hands..... he loves it...... but his mother doesn't!!!

And here he is setting into the front one, removing it from the transfer box.

Oil leak from the RH side of the engine. Looks like it is from the lift pump. Gaskets and seals will be replaced as necessary before refitting the engine. It has already had a compression check which proved acceptable.

The power steering box was a reconditioned one fitted a couple of years ago. So this will be reused after a clean and repaint.

The various electrical and fluid connections were removed from the engine and gearbox. Here, Michael is disconnecting the starter motor cable.

We decided to split the engine and gearbox to remove them separately. They are more manageable that way. There are a number of nuts around the bell housing and the engine mounts to undo. Then it can be lifted clear. Try to keep it lined up with the gearbox to avoid damage to the first motion shaft.

Once the engine was removed, the gearbox just needed it's mountings undone to lift out.

We positioned the engine crane at the side of the chassis and lifted the gearbox out.

Bare rolling chassis. The workshop is getting a bit full of junk now!

Another view of the rolling chassis.
