Engine

The 2.5TD engine was found to have good compression before it was removed. Here, it is being cleaned ready for paint.

The old clutch wasn't in bad condition, but I decided to replace it anyway.

We turned down a piece of mild steel bar as an alignment tool for the clutch.

The old injectors seemed to be leaking. New ones for this type of engine are about the same as the cost of reconditioning. So new ones were bought.

After the engine had a couple of coats of paint, the injectors were fitted.

Other parts were fitted after being cleaned.

A picture from the other side before many parts were refitted.

Here, the engine and gearbox are tied to a pallet to move them to the workshop for assembly into the chassis.

We used the forklift to carry the gearbox. It made assembling it to the engine very easy.

After aligning the splines, the gearbox slid into place.

The complete engine and gearbox assembly was then lifted into place with the forklift.

And lowered into place. If only all jobs were this easy!

The turbo and exhaust manifold were painted in heat resistant paint and reinstalled.

The exhaust wasn't very old, so was to be reused.

I had 2 manifold clamps, both genuine Land over, sent to me from 2 different suppliers and both were too large! Found the rather snazzy stainless steel one on the internet which works really well.
